Do You Dream of Flying Too?

It's only happened to me a couple of times, and years apart as well. The other flying dream, which I had when I was young, became the back-story to my novel, 'Flying for Frankie'. And a couple of nights ago, I flew again.
The really curious thing about it was the sense of knowing what to do. If I'd been in hospital for six weeks with broken legs, walking again wouldn't have been as easy and familiar as my being able to fly. And it wasn't a wafty, dreamy sort of flight either. The whole process of spreading out my arms and gaining lift-off, then building on that lift-off to gain height, then developing that height into proper flying was so totally familiar, precise and believable that you'd have thought I'd been doing it all my life.
I don't subscribe to the view that I was a pigeon in another life [or even - far more fabulously - a scarlet macaw] so where does this sense of precise familiarity come from? My dreams, these days, are full of surprises. I come stumbling down to my typewriter in the morning knowing I'd be crazy not to get down as much as I can of what's still half-lingering in my head.
I'm not going to bore you with the other dreams. I'm aware that dreams are far more fascinating to the dreamer than anybody else. But I will share the fact that, after years of beating about the bush, I'm finally writing the story I should have written years ago, but was aware I hadn't earned my stripes for yet on the writing front - and also simply didn't dare. Its time has come at last. Slowly, nervously, I'm inching my way into it. So perhaps that's what the dreams are all about. Things are being churned up. Sometimes the dreams aren't so nice, and I wake up in a sweat. But sometimes I get to fly - and that encourages me to carry on.
What about you? Do you dream of flying too?
